There is always a solution

Black and white photo of a Banangrams game with the caption “there is always a solution”

You may be curious why am I sitting and playing Banagrams by myself (or maybe not but I still think it is worth reading the rest of this). I love playing this game because it reminds me that there is always a solution. Sometimes I need to rearrange the board to make different words but there is always a solution AND getting to the solution is fun as long as I let myself relax and not get wound up about it.  The other day I was playing and could not find where to put a letter, I had a good 5 minutes of looking for the solution when my partner looked over and said “it can go there”. I am always amazed when that happens and it happens a lot when I am being coached. Just one question or a short conversation that shifts my point of view can make a solution visible instantly! The ease of it feels like a miracle and quite delicious!

I am getting better, and some days spectacular, at shifting how I am approaching my life and better at the times I get stumped by a situation that needs a solution. I have found a few things work really well for me in practicing how to shift my point of view. Some think this is hard but a point of view is just the view from the point you are at, shift point where you are and your view changes. Here are some practices to exercise your creativity muscles - creativity is the way we are able to see so many solutions.

  • Remind yourself you are creative even if you don’t feel like you are

  • Play games that make you find multiple solutions

  • Watch the clouds and choose one thing to look for “I want to see a whale” and see how easy it is to do this, then look at the clouds with nothing specific in mind and see what you find

  • Draw or paint squiggles and make them into something - creatures, flowers, a mountain whatever you see **Hint** this can be done in many workplaces when trying to figure out a solution

  • Literally shift your physical self to see differently, go for a walk, stretch, dance

  • Meditate - even listening to music (especially music with no words) for 15 minutes and letting your brain slow down

  • Talk with a friend, family or a coach who will help you shift so the view is different

There is always a solution and you have the creativity needed to discover it. If you feel stuck and can’t find the next steps for your life path coaching may be a good option for you. For all of October I have a special, 4 sessions for $400 with all sessions used by December 1, 2022. Make an appointment for a free consultation to see how I can help you.
